Surveillance for Everybody: Reading Pt. 5 of Whitney Webb’s Research into the Epstein Network
There are times when a potential future peeks back at you from its existence up ahead. That’s the feeling I got when reading Whitney Webb’s latest investigative piece for Mint Press News, which continues her exploration of the divergent strands related to Jeffrey Epstein’s life as a kidnapper, pedophile, sex trafficker, likely American and/or Israeli intelligence asset, and investor/bagman for mob-connected oligarchs.
In many respects, Webb treats Epstein as what he was in a much larger context, focusing not on the particulars of his sex trafficking and heinous exploitation of vulnerable girls, but rather using his place as a lower level operative for the world’s shadow government interests (and their intersection and collaboration with organized crime syndicates) to trace specific technology projects that reveal transnational opportunism, avarice and totalitarian aspiration.
Her latest piece in that effort, “How the CIA, Mossad and the “Epstein Network” Are Exploiting Mass Shootings to Create an Orwellian Nightmare”, is made up of roughly 80% fact and 20% educated-guess speculation. It’s both fascinating and terrifying in its implications about digital technology and mass surveillance, much more like a Philip K. Dick novel than anything Orwell ever imagined. From a content perspective, it’s actually not far off from some of the trajectory Dick envisioned for the U.S. as a society:
- Heavy, technologically based surveillance
- Extreme paranoia (a feature of our bloated and militarized government since the 50s)
- The ever-present potentiality of widespread repressive political violence in a digitally empowered police state
In the Words of Others podcast, we took a pause from our reading of Cory Morningstar’s investigation into the profit-driven elite enterprises that seek to use and redirect environmental activists like Greta Thunberg (and the actions they’ve inspired), to spend some time in the dark world that Webb traverses in her research into the activities of “The Epstein Network” as it relates to Israeli intelligence, Silicon Valley, and technology utilized as an omniscient spy network for the state.
As always, thanks for reading and listening.
