There seems to be a strain in the Martins, obviously way more pronounced in Robbie, that goes apoplectic at the thought that people who are thoughtfully engaged on the political right might not all be psychotic fascists. For instance, the recent kerfuffle with Abbie not wanting to be a part of Suzie Dawson’s work with Unity4J because people identified with the libertarian right are contributing. While I think there’s a certain amount of fuzzy thinking in that take, she’s been pretty respectful in articulating her viewpoint. If you look at Robbie’s Twitter feed, he goes out of his way to get nasty with a lot of people. If he were just an angry dude on the Internet, that’d be one thing, crummy as it is. But he’s a journalist that’s supposed to be dedicated to the truth. Spreading around lies and personal attacks just doesn’t comport with that, on top of just being a shitty and immature way to treat others. And it’s not lost on me that it’s always caucasian dudes coming after you, Caitlin. Did you see Eric Draitser all up in his thread with the amens? What lies behind all this?

I write children's books and socio-political missives. I care about people, nature, humor, moving pictures and, uh, survival.
